Kicad - free EDA software

KiCad is an open source software suite for electronic design automation - designing schematics of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards. KiCad is developed by Jean-Pierre Charras.

KiCad software is organized in five main parts:
  • kicad - the project manager.
  • pcbnew - the PCB layout program.
  • eeschema - the schematic editor.
  • cvpcb - the footprint selector for components used in the circuit design.
  • gerbview - the Gerber (photoplotter documents) viewer.

This software (using WXWIDGETS) is multi platform. It is running under Linux and Windows (XP or 2000), for which updates are regularly provided. Sometime the softwares are also been tested under other operating systems, especially FreeBSD and Solaris.

Multiple languages are supported, such as English, Spanish, Czech, Portugese, Polish, French, Russian and German.
